Discept. I discept with(???) Rousseau.
Ultracrepidarianism. A terribly useful word and skill 233333
Sockdolager. Keep practising...

Log-rolling. As vivid as Dover Court lol
Tacenda. No wonder such an eminently useful word died out...
Earnder. Sounds good! PS. What about a morning coffee session?
Quidnunc. It's still a living word!!!
Quother. Some people are really good at it...
Rawgabbit. During the first few weeks of my full-time work, I didn't find the supervisor is a rawgabbit...
Controver. Here and there; and is sometimes called "creativity" lol

So, that's for today, and this year. Surprised to find this Book of Hours in the Musee of Cluny, a fantastic medieval museum!!!

Happy New Year.
Just...do my best.

The Horologicon - Notes #2

Exhausted. Getting one shit done only means you can start to fight with another, bigger. But I nevertheless have managed to keep my progress --- on commute... Chiliander and to scrouge!!! Luckily there's no chariot buzzer... But I need to start from washing first.

  • Curglaff. Hope I'll never experience this in Scotland or anywhere norther...!
  • Trichotillomania. Always......
  • Ante-jentacular. One decisive reason why I'm eagerly planing to move back to central London...
  • Ariston. What a smart word!!!
  • Aristologist. A career absolutely worth devoting one's life!!!
  • Chota hazri. Never on my list if I had a choice..
  • Whet. I'd love to have one 233
  • Conge. Check, check, and check...
  • Sawle. Why such a useful word died out???
  • Chorking. One of the worst things could happen in cold days...
  • Grubble. The advantage of having only two pockets lol
  • Delphinestrian. Really?????! LOL
  • Thrombosis. One of the key criterions of judging a metropolis is well-managemed or not. (all the big cities in Mainland China fail)
  • ChilianderScrouge. Nightmare in the morning. I, however, actually don't have many experience about it; having morning meeting at 7:30 am and seldom leaving office before 8pm everyday, buses and tubes are always empty and quite lol But when occasionally I oversleep or am allowed to leave before 7pm...
  • Hemothymia. Keep --- calm..
  • Scuddle. That really needs practice to do well...
  • Pedeconferencing. Conservatives will not like it..
  • Essoinment. Well, sometimes you have to do them a favour...
  • Obganiate. Whoever obganiates is by no excuse half-witted.
  • Battology. The stupid words you need to type a thousand times in job-hunting.
  • Mataeology. If only they could save this time to make them seem less stupid.
  • Nod-crafy. Unfortunately, I am...LOL

So, that's for today. Tomorrow, Ante-jentacular (an hour), Chota hazri (no choice), conge, chiliander and scrouge (every Friday...), hemothymia (keep calm), and nod-crafy.
Night.

The Horologicon - Notes #1

Oh yes, I read it from cover to cover. And... I, at least for now, am not planning a suicide lol
Although my daily schedule is very different* from the content, I think the office life in different industries and countries always have sth. essentially in common; otherwise I won't laugh so hard when reading p3-4... (poor chap; must have been living in this illusion all the time...
Anyway, just open this entry to make notes of some especially useful words.

  • Uhtceare. Worrying... Hope will find a similar word for "lying awake at midnight and feeling anxious" later...
  • Hypnopompic. Always get this after a long day. Feel really wired...
  • Expergefactor. iPhone. Snooze x3/4/5... But find children is much more efficient (so, I don't set alarm at weekend). Have no lover at all.
  • Zwodder. Somehow can guess its meaning at first sight... And "sth. warm and comfortable" indeed~ Reminds me of a mild big bear...
  • Philogrobolized. Philo- is good lol
  • Lucifugous. Seems cool w Cannot sleep well without thick curtain.
  • Dysania. Diagnosed...
  • Oscitancy. The "Are you tired of being tired" ad you would see in tube...
  • Egrote. "Fantastically useful" indeed!! Although seldom do it; 2-3 times every year, by e-mail (not good at drama...lol
  • Elf-locks. So cute!! Is it invented by the Irish? (Answer: Romeo and Juliet...)
  • Idiorepulsive. Well~~~ well.
TBC.

Start from drunkenness

Inspired by Mark Forsyth's talk on 6 Dec., I think of that one can observe Chinese is a dry nation through its character of drunkenness, “醉“, where the left part “酉” is the utensil to make wine and the right part “卒” is dead……(“卒” can also refer to "graduation", but this meaning is developed much later, just in the recent centuries) I also have a dim memory that the root character of “酉” is some utensil used exclusively on religious ceremony. If so, the Chinese character for wine, “酒”, can also reflect its spiritual function, that is to connect gods (the ancestors' soul).
Another Chinese character I always feel uncomfortable to use is “屋”, which nowadays simply means "house". It, however, originally means "mortuary" in the age of oracle bone script. This is actually quite straightforward from the structure as the upper part "尸" is "corpse" and "至" is "arrive"; putting together, it is "the place where corpse arrives at"...But no one cares anyway.
